Why this project

Four signals that define a window of opportunity measured in months.

Peru is one of the world's leaders in fresh agro-food exports. Its table grapes, blueberries, avocados, and asparagus sectors generate more than USD 6 billion annually and sustain the livelihoods of thousands of rural families in Ica, Piura, La Libertad, Lambayeque, and Áncash.

Yet this accumulated success is being structurally threatened by a simultaneous transformation in the rules of international trade, and the sector is not prepared to face it.

Four signals converge to define the moment:

Signal01

Signal 1 - CSDDD (2027)

The EU's Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive obliges large European companies to audit and manage the human rights and environmental impacts of their global supply chains. Peru's European agro-export buyers will be required to demand evidence of sustainable governance from their suppliers starting in 2029.

Signal02

Signal 2 - EU-Mercosur Agreement (Dec. 2024)

Brazil and Argentina gain preferential access to the European market with incorporated sustainability requirements. The B Corp movement is more mature in Mercosur than in Andean economies. Peru's direct competitors enter with tariff advantages and greater sustainability standard maturity.

Signal03

Signal 3 - PENX 2025-2035 (active revision)

Peru's National Export Strategic Plan is under active revision: an opening that happens once per decade. This is the opportunity to incorporate B Corp policies as a recognized voluntary standard before the window closes.

Signal04

Signal 4 - The Vallformosa reference

Winery Vallformosa has completed its own B Corp transition in the European agro-food context and is seeking, through its foundation, to transfer its bioeconomy model to Latin America. This level of availability of a certified international reference is exceptional and time-limited.

The convergence of these four signals defines a window of opportunity measured in months, not years. The project is designed specifically to operate within that window.

Objective

Produce evidence that makes action the most rational option for decision-makers.

The project's central objective is to produce a methodologically rigorous, expert-validated White Paper that supports the adoption of B Corp certification policies in Peru's agro-export sectors, and directly influences public policy instruments - PENX 2025-2035, AGRORURAL, and DL 1551 - through voluntary, market-aligned mechanisms.

This project is not an academic publication. It is a public policy operation designed to generate measurable institutional change, within a specific time window and with clearly defined influence mechanisms.
